About the Program
Why should I convert to natural gas?
Propane might have been an easy choice for heating -- or the only choice -- when you moved into your home. Now, there has never been a better time to convert to low-cost natural gas. Natural gas is economical, reliable and versatile. When properly used, natural gas is a safe fuel choice.
Natural gas can be used for a variety of indoor and outdoor applications, including space heating, water heating, clothes drying, fireplaces, outdoor grills and more. Natural gas is a reliable domestic resource, piped directly to your home or building. There's no need to schedule deliveries or maintain storage tanks.

Can I save money by switching to natural gas?
Yes. You can significantly lower your fuel costs by converting from propane to natural gas. Natural gas prices through New Mexico Gas Company are relatively low and stable while propane prices tend to be more volatile. Since the current price of propane is comparatively much higher than natural gas, you can potentially save every month on energy costs.

How much does a conversion cost?
To bring natural gas into your home or building, New Mexico Gas Company will need to extend a natural gas distribution line along a neaby road or approved right-of-way, and then our crews will install a service line to connect to your home.
The final cost will depend on the distance for the mainline extension, the length of the service line and other potential factors such as landscaping and driveway crossings. A detailed cost estimate will be provided for each customer before conversion work is performed.
The cost for converting furnaces and other appliances is typically at customer expense. However, we offer a range of rebates and other savings for energy efficient appliances.
Did pricing change for converting to natural gas?
Yes. The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission approved a revised rule that makes it easier and more affordable for customers to convert to natural gas.
The revised rule allows New Mexico Gas Company to provide line extension credits of $1,812 for each property that your line extension passes. Lot credits are figured individually for each line extension request and determined by the number of platted lots that are filed and recorded with your County Clerk.
The revised rule also provides enhanced revenue credits. These credits are determined by an estimate of your annual therm usage or actual propane usage after converting to therms. Please note that potential customers will not receive lot credits for any lots that receive revenue credits.
Can I use an advance to assist with my line extension?
Yes. Check out the Gas Advantage Program. We created this program to help customers with the costs incurred when installing natural gas service to homes and small businesses. Customers may be provided an advance to apply toward the cost of the line extension and/or the new service line.
The Gas Advantage Program is available to all potential residential and small commercial sales customers. Anyone receiving new service at the address will be responsible for payments toward the advance balance.
What are the terms of the advance?
The Gas Advantage Program is available to fund up to $5,000 for qualifying customers. A carrying charge will be applied to the amount that is advanced. The advance must be paid back to New Mexico Gas Company over a period up to 10 years.
Customers can pay off the outstanding balance at any time without penalty. The minimum monthly payment is $20. For information about the Gas Advantage Program, call us at 1-888-664-2726.
